Snowy London!

Snowy courtyard @ Stamford Street Apartment 24.01.2007

Tuesday morning. While I was still relishing my dreams in my warm cozy bed my phone went off. It was a text message from a dear friend bearing a great news: SNOW!

I can't recall any memory of getting off my bed in such an instant (especially in this weather obviously). Anyways, that's what I did, not even with a millisecond of hesitation... Although I don’t have much of a view from my room, I could still catch a glimpse of it on top of the bus stop across the street, and the passing cars and trucks looked as if they were from a new fleet. Not an ideal place for snow impact though. I decided to head to the kitchen.

Oh yeah, the kitchen! That’s where these pictures were taken. However embarrassing it is I have to admit I was truly mesmerised by the tranquility and beauty the snow has brought to the banal courtyard. It’s not the first time snow has caught me by surprise, yet I was still, in a way, touched... Why does snow always have such an impact (on me at least)? Perhaps that’s the feeling of sublime any of us might have in front of nature; perhaps, that’s a subconscious desire to have one’s soul purified; or, perhaps, I was just plainly flattered by the fact that I have had this luck to see such a rare scene in London...

Perhaps I’m just delighted to have something worth sharing, with you.

Climbing up the Giant's Shoulder

02.01 - 18.01.2007: post-holiday productive days

I know it's not going to be easy. I just didn't know it'd be that hard. Harder than work. Harder than climbing those 3,500 steps of Mt. Sinai. 15 hours a day. 15 days straight. Just to produce these 5,000 words. Finally, I made to the top of this little hill, and I can't put into words how much I enjoy the view.

Suddenly my old school's motto popped up in my exhausted mind:
Climb high, see wide. I feel proud as I did not cry.

(For those of you who can really do some math, you're right, there are seventeen days between 02.01 and 18.01. To tell the truth, in the last two days I've written another essay!)
